Do y’all ever have days where you just need to see something pretty? Where all you want to do is curl up with wedding magazines and spend a few hours ignoring the clutter and mess around you? Today is that day for me. Hubs and I are moving in five days and our apartment has become a maze of furniture, boxes, and packing material. And our washer flooded the laundry room and kitchen this morning. And I fell down the stairs in front of my neighbors a few hours ago. So believe me when I tell you, I need to see some pretty things today! To remedy my crazy morning, I have pulled together some of the most stunning bridesmaid dresses I could find. Over the past few years bridesmaid dresses have gone from ugly to fabulous. Brides are now using their bridesmaids as a way to show off some serious fashion. I LOVE IT. Tulle, lace, neutrals, brights, similar, or mixed, I don’t care, I love them all. As long as they are fashionable, adorable, and girly, you can bet I will be drooling over them. Ready to see some great dresses? Let’s do this-
Bonus: bridesmaid tights- whoever came up with this idea is GENIUS
Oh, my morning is brighter already! These make me want to get married all over again (to Hubs of course) so I can pick out some more fabulous bridesmaids dresses. Especially that black tulle number, did you see that beauty? Swoon! Let us know what your faves are!
A few weeks ago I (Meredith) posted some fashion finds that I was loving. Well, I am back with an update of what I actually bought. Keep in mind that I had a tiny budget so I wasn’t able to get everything off my list but I did manage to get some similar jeans, a crew neck sweater, a sleeveless top, and a cardigan. Somehow, I have managed not to own a cardigan for the past few years. I am not sure how I have gotten through so I had to use a little of my budget to remedy this problem. Seriously, best decision ever. I got it about two weeks ago and have worn it almost every day. Hubs is starting to ask me, “Are you sure that is what you want to wear today?” I think he is getting a little concerned that I am going to replace my entire wardrobe with cardigans. Don’t worry, I’m not that addicted!
Here is what I bought-
One thing I have learned from my shopping this month is that I am HORRIBLE at buying accessories. I can never seem to find shoes or jewelry that I 1) love or 2) think will go with things I already own or 3) think I can pull off. Next time I have a little extra room in the budget for clothes those are the things I will focus on. Any suggestions for inexpensive places to get cute shoes, jewelry, or clothes? Let us know! We are in need to some style help and would welcome any advice you have. By we I mean me, Jenna and Madeline both have style in spades.
Help a girl out and let me know where you get your best fashion finds!
Y’all, I am SO EXCITED today! Why? 1) Saturdays have kind of become baking day in my house and today I am making Chocolate Stout cupcakes. For some odd reason we now celebrate Texas A&M game days with A&M shirts and baked goods. I’m not going to complain because it gives me an excuse to pull out my kitchen aid mixer and eat chocolate. I am already drooling thinking about the cupcakes that will be coming out of my oven later . . . 2) Today we are featuring ANOTHER STYLED SHOOT! This shoot is cute and simple, just the way we like it! We had so much fun doing this, the entire Merry team was together (a rarity) and we spent the night laughing, dreaming, and taking these pictures just as a rainstorm started. Now, more about the shoot!
Do you spend your mornings staring at your closet, unsure of how you ended up with absolutely nothing to wear? Does your closet seem full of years of items you once loved but now have no idea what to do with them? We have been there. As a kid dressing up used to be so much fun and now getting dressed is a part of the day we most dread. Well, it’s time to put the fun back into clothes! Our sweet friend Anna was kind enough to bring over some of her wardrobe. We picked out a few items and put them together in a few simple and fresh ways to give her some new ideas of how to rock some of her favorite pieces. Hopefully, this will inspire you to do the same!
Don’t you love these outfits? They are so simple but adorable! The best part is that you can do exactly what we did at home- get in your closet and start creating new combinations of clothes! Don’t be afraid to try new things, chances are you will end up with some amazing new outfits that came straight from your closet. Put the fun back into getting dressed and start mixing and matching! Share your favorite new combos, we can’t wait to hear what you come up with!
Ok y’all, let’s talk fashion. Lately I have been realizing that it is hard to have a personal sense of style. I have friends who do this really well. Every time they step out of their home they look adorable, stylish, and 100 percent themselves. You know the girls I am talking about, they have a defined style that reflects their personality and they never look like they are trying too hard. Well, I want to be one of those girls. Fashion is something I have historically struggle with. Maybe it is the result of going to a private school where my uniform was chosen for me. No matter what the cause, my closet is sparse and doesn’t really reflect the woman I am or the woman I want to be. It’s pretty much all t-shirts, a few Forever 21 tops, and a whole lot of scarves. My basic fashion philosophy for the past five years has been, “If you add a cute scarf to an outfit you will automatically look more stylish.” Like I told you, I am in need of some fashion help.
However, I have decided it is time for a change. I want to have cute clothes, a personal sense of style, and feel good about the outfits I put together. When I wear a great outfit I feel more confident, creative, productive, and bold. Who doesn’t want to feel like that on the daily? This month I have set aside a little bit of money in my budget to try to help myself out. By a little bit of money, I really mean a little bit of money. As a fresh out of college newly-wed, my budget is TIGHT so I need to be able to look good for as few pennies as possible. Here are the pieces I have found that have given me some inspiration and some hope that I can still become a fashionable person. All of these items are budget friendly or are on sale for a budget friendly price (minus the Kate Spade watch, a girl can dream right?) In a few weeks I will update y’all on what I actually bought, hopefully I will do you proud. Now, let’s get to shopping!
Did you see that scarf I slipped in there? I couldn’t help myself, old habits die hard. I am not sure exactly what my personal style is going to look like yet but I do know ANYTHING will be better than what I am doing now. How about you? Do you struggle with fashion? If you have a defined personal style, how did you find it? We would love to hear from you!
There isn’t a color I can think of that is more trendy than coral. (do people say trendy anymore?) These peachy, pink, and orange hues are so popular right now. I can’t blame anyone for loving this color. It adds brightness to any room, vibrancy to floral arrangements, and makes even the palest girl look like she has a bronzy glow. SIGN ME UP. (personal note- shouldn’t I be tan considering it is mid-august? instead I look like it is december and I haven’t seen the sun in months. embarrassing)
Here are some of the most fun uses of coral I have seen lately. Go get your coral on.
Merry merry quite contrary, with what does our denim go? With cotton dresses and baby blues and every pair of imaginable shoes.
So denim vests are one of my FAVORITE trends right now. However, I have tons of friends saying they can’t “pull them off” because they never know what to wear with it, or they don’t have the right style. This trend is so versatile though that absolutely anyone can wear one and look fantastic. I had a blast putting together different outfit combinations to show this. If I can do it, anyone can. So have fun, be yourself, and get to rockin a denim vest you babes!
Originally I had planned an awesome t-shirt flag DIY idea which I surely will complete later and share but due to a few mishaps, it is not to be. Instead, I wanted to share a small, easy DIY and outfit post for 4th of July style.
But, first: People often compliment on my style and say “I could never pull that off”. And let me tell you — and this is coming from a girl who used to wear sweats and t-shirts for the better part of 5 years, YES YOU CAN. Style is all about rocking what you love and making it work. It’s not about spending lots of money on items you’ll wear once or wearing the biggest fad at the time (unless you happen to adore it), it’s about dressing to your personality and body. After many years of “never having anything to wear” and trying to fit in to a mold, I thought to heck with it and decided to try out different styles and options and somewhere along the way, I found my style. It varies and sometimes I get stuck in a rut but it has stretched me creatively to find new ways to use what I have and to let my clothes express a little piece of me instead of being defined by my clothes. It has been such a fun journey to try (and fail!) and learn what fits best and not feel pressured to buy every new trend as soon as it comes out (hi-lo dresses, chevron, crop tops, etc.) just to feel great about my wardrobe. Some of these are styles I eventually came to love and would buy but it’s great looking back at fashion fads that came and went that weren’t THAT great and not feel like I missed out on anything. As a bonafide thrifter, (and maybe later I will share a post on do and dont thrifting tips), I would encourage trying to find pieces that have come back in style (florals, for example) instead of spending lots of dough you could spend elsewhere. And it always feels like a treasure hunt when you find an awesome piece. This is why I may or may not be on hoarders one day, but it also accounts for about 90% of my wardrobe. So you decide which is the greater evil. I choose living in piles of crap later in life. All in the name of fashion, of course.
ANYWAYS, here is my DIY flag overalls. I’m going to rock these on the 4th and rock them hard. All I did was find a little flag (thrifting) and sew it onto some thicker backing. Then I just sewed them onto my (also thrifted) overalls. The rest of the outfit is up to you.
Enjoy! And make sure to send us pictures of whatever great DIY project you did to show your 4th spirit! (I mean this less in a holy 4th spirit and more like cheerleading spirit. Carry on.)
