Thursday Trend: Thankfulness

Hi friends!

Colder weather has arrive with November. I finally get to break out the fall boots, best day ever! Thanksgiving is coming up- it’s one of my absolute favorite holidays. How beautiful is it that we get to take a day alongside family and friends just to be grateful. While every day should be filled with gratitude, I love the idea of throwing a big party for those we love to hear what they are thankful for. So let’s look at some Thanksgiving party trends. I am seeing a lot of non-traditional outdoor parties, which you should know we are a fan of here at Merry!

Instead of going with the cornucopia in the center of the table, try some bright flowers! I love the added pops of color in these tables. Fall colors are gorgeous- the golds, burgundies, bright reds. But it’s okay to mix in some cool colors or bright creams in to lighten the mood! Throw in some fuchsia or even some bold blue like the bottom picture! I also adore the long tables with wooden benches. It adds a rustic charm to the table, throw on a burlap table runner but add in some unexpected decorations. Pumpkins covered in gold glitter! Place cards that you can fill in with a thankful list! Or maybe even some apples for pops of color! Get creative. Just because Thanksgiving is an old holiday doesn’t mean it can’t be spiced up in new ways! Here are some pictures to get you started. Enjoy the season of thankfulness.

Love and Sunshine! Thanks for reading, friends.

21st birthday party

Have y’all seen those 21st birthday cakes that are covered in mini bottles of alcohol and a “drunk” Barbie? Those things freak me out. Maybe this is old fashioned, but growing up I never hoped and dreamed that my 21st birthday would end with me passed out, legs up in the air, and makeup down my face. I am not sure when that became cool because honestly, it isn’t.

Instead, I pictured my 21st birthday as a fun day of celebration that included champagne, cake, and lots of dancing. Really, all your most important days should include some great dancing. For my actual 21st birthday I spent the day with my family then went out for dinner with my girlfriends the next night where we had wine, ate lots of italian food, and stayed for hours talking, laughing, and just being girly. It was super low-key but wonderful.

Here are my feelings on the big 2-1. Your birthday should not celebrate alcohol. Why? 1) Alcohol is an inanimate object. 2) That makes drinks the focus of your birthday instead of you. Your birthday should be a celebration of who you are. It should reflect what you love. Your birthday should be a party with your closest friends! If there is alcohol there, cool. If not, cool. Who cares? Make it about you! A girl only gets to turn 21 once!

So here is my prescription for a great 21st birthday party- lots of friends, feminine details, sparkles, sprinkles, laughter, and dancing. No drunk Barbies because that is just scary. Make a fun signature drink or make some mocktails. Either way, you will be having the time of your life. Ok, enough already, let’s get to some inspiration!

Anyone want to go back and pretend to be turning twenty-one again? Maybe I can convince one of my friends that we need to throw an over the top, girly, and sparkly party for her birthday. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Party on!

be silly

Merry has officially been up and running for four weeks!!

To celebrate this little milestone I wanted to share one of my favorite images I have come across this year.

Be goofy. Chase your dreams. Let yourself be a bit crazy. That is what we are doing!

Thanks for supporting us the past few weeks. We hope you continue to be silly, adventurous, and girly with us as we continue this journey.

The Merry Team

beer tasting birthday

What has the power to make a grown woman desperately search the internet, drive to every store in a 30 mile radius, purchase and return items, and sometimes literally pull her hair out? Her man’s birthday. Honestly, how is shopping for guys one of the most challenging tasks we face all year? There is an ongoing list of guy gift ideas on my phone but somehow I still end up scrambling when birthdays and Christmas come around. I have a whole mess of theories about why guys are so hard to shop (some more realistic than others) but listing them would only make us all more frustrated and maybe even raise a few “Amens!” from some of you. Instead, I thought I would share an idea that may make his next birthday a whole lot easier on you.

What has the power to make a grown man giddy with excitement? Beer. Football also has this effect but today we are going to focus on the booze. Seriously, men could talk for hours about ales, lagers, hops, and a ton of other words that I don’t know. If your man loves beer and you love to throw a good party, what could be better than a beer tasting birthday party? Your man and his friends will get very serious about the flavor profiles of beer and love chowing down on some bar food. It’s easy, fairly inexpensive, and a crowd pleaser! WHY HAVE I NOT DONE THIS BEFORE? Goodbye gift frustrations, hello microbrews, sliders, and happy men!

Here is a little inspiration board to get you started.

For a non-alcoholic party try using different specialty sodas!

So throw away your shopping woes, grab a glass, and make a toast to the best birthday gift you can give your guy- a night of beer, friends, and celebration!

Let the good times roll.
