beautiful bridesmaids

Do y’all ever have days where you just need to see something pretty? Where all you want to do is curl up with wedding magazines and spend a few hours ignoring the clutter and mess around you? Today is that day for me. Hubs and I are moving in five days and our apartment has become a maze of furniture, boxes, and packing material. And our washer flooded the laundry room and kitchen this morning. And I fell down the stairs in front of my neighbors a few hours ago. So believe me when I tell you, I need to see some pretty things today! To remedy my crazy morning, I have pulled together some of the most stunning bridesmaid dresses I could find. Over the past few years bridesmaid dresses have gone from ugly to fabulous. Brides are now using their bridesmaids as a way to show off some serious fashion. I LOVE IT.  Tulle, lace, neutrals, brights, similar, or mixed, I don’t care, I love them all. As long as they are fashionable, adorable, and girly, you can bet I will be drooling over them. Ready to see some great dresses? Let’s do this-

Oh, my morning is brighter already! These make me want to get married all over again (to Hubs of course) so I can pick out some more fabulous bridesmaids dresses. Especially that black tulle number, did you see that beauty? Swoon! Let us know what your faves are!

Hope your Tuesday is off to a great start,

Long live beautiful bridesmaid dresses!

Thursday Trend: Thankfulness

Hi friends!

Colder weather has arrive with November. I finally get to break out the fall boots, best day ever! Thanksgiving is coming up- it’s one of my absolute favorite holidays. How beautiful is it that we get to take a day alongside family and friends just to be grateful. While every day should be filled with gratitude, I love the idea of throwing a big party for those we love to hear what they are thankful for. So let’s look at some Thanksgiving party trends. I am seeing a lot of non-traditional outdoor parties, which you should know we are a fan of here at Merry!

Instead of going with the cornucopia in the center of the table, try some bright flowers! I love the added pops of color in these tables. Fall colors are gorgeous- the golds, burgundies, bright reds. But it’s okay to mix in some cool colors or bright creams in to lighten the mood! Throw in some fuchsia or even some bold blue like the bottom picture! I also adore the long tables with wooden benches. It adds a rustic charm to the table, throw on a burlap table runner but add in some unexpected decorations. Pumpkins covered in gold glitter! Place cards that you can fill in with a thankful list! Or maybe even some apples for pops of color! Get creative. Just because Thanksgiving is an old holiday doesn’t mean it can’t be spiced up in new ways! Here are some pictures to get you started. Enjoy the season of thankfulness.

fashion finds part two

A few weeks ago I (Meredith) posted some fashion finds that I was loving. Well, I am back with an update of what I actually bought. Keep in mind that I had a tiny budget so I wasn’t able to get everything off my list but I did manage to get some similar jeans, a crew neck sweater, a sleeveless top, and a cardigan. Somehow, I have managed not to own a cardigan for the past few years. I am not sure how I have gotten through so I had to use a little of my budget to remedy this problem. Seriously, best decision ever. I got it about two weeks ago and have worn it almost every day. Hubs is starting to ask me, “Are you sure that is what you want to wear today?” I think he is getting a little concerned that I am going to replace my entire wardrobe with cardigans. Don’t worry, I’m not that addicted!

Here is what I bought-

d5abde51ba71dde92afb37663e237d84 7b50555f79ee0806f4821406d5d2653d 9ee05a122bc0b5759d46684942d9d664 309e0c3da8c27ac76cb8fbc85aa10208

One thing I have learned from my shopping this month is that I am HORRIBLE at buying accessories. I can never seem to find shoes or jewelry that I 1) love or 2) think will go with things I already own or 3) think I can pull off. Next time I have a little extra room in the budget for clothes those are the things I will focus on. Any suggestions for inexpensive places to get cute shoes, jewelry, or clothes? Let us know! We are in need to some style help and would welcome any advice you have. By we I mean me, Jenna and Madeline both have style in spades.

Help a girl out and let me know where you get your best fashion finds!

Enjoy this gorgeous fall day & stay merry!

let’s mix and match

Y’all, I am SO EXCITED today! Why? 1) Saturdays have kind of become baking day in my house and today I am making Chocolate Stout cupcakes. For some odd reason we now celebrate Texas A&M game days with A&M shirts and baked goods. I’m not going to complain because it gives me an excuse to pull out my kitchen aid mixer and eat chocolate. I am already drooling thinking about the cupcakes that will be coming out of my oven later . . . 2) Today we are featuring ANOTHER STYLED SHOOT! This shoot is cute and simple, just the way we like it! We had so much fun doing this, the entire Merry team was together (a rarity) and we spent the night laughing, dreaming, and taking these pictures just as a rainstorm started. Now, more about the shoot!

Do you spend your mornings staring at your closet, unsure of how you ended up with absolutely nothing to wear? Does your closet seem full of years of items you once loved but now have no idea what to do with them? We have been there. As a kid dressing up used to be so much fun and now getting dressed is a part of the day we most dread. Well, it’s time to put the fun back into clothes! Our sweet friend Anna was kind enough to bring over some of her wardrobe. We picked out a few items and put them together in a few simple and fresh ways to give her some new ideas of how to rock some of her favorite pieces. Hopefully, this will inspire you to do the same!

Don’t you love these outfits? They are so simple but adorable! The best part is that you can do exactly what we did at home- get in your closet and start creating new combinations of clothes! Don’t be afraid to try new things, chances are you will end up with some amazing new outfits that came straight from your closet. Put the fun back into getting dressed and start mixing and matching! Share your favorite new combos, we can’t wait to hear what you come up with!

Stay merry

how to get out of a rut.

IMG_20130802_083430

creatively, i often find myself at a place where i am bankrupt. my drive, desire and inspiration is depleted and i find myself in a place where i am questioning whether the instinctual vision i usually feel close to the surface in my mind is actually real or not.

now the root of this usually is my time with god. creatively, he is at the center and focal point of not only why i do the things i do (painting, crafting, etc.) but the also the inspiration behind them anyways. usually once i get my mind right, my creative block usually goes on at least a short hiatus.

things i tend to avoid when trying to get my groove back is – comparing myself, trying to copy something exactly, whether it be an oufit, decorations, art, etc, and most importantly; taking it slow. often i get frustrated when i don’t immediately have a great idea or i do and then i can’t execute it the way i imagined. by refusing to compare myself or my ideas to other people’s, i am more gracious to myself and allow myself time to think about what i am really hoping to accomplish in whatever venture i am trying out. the other faux pas act of copying someone exactly diminishes your abilities and limits the scope of what you are capable of creatively. I’ve found that the less i copy, the less i compare myself later. I find lots of inspiration in people, pins, and past ventures; whether by other people or my own. BUT the difference is that when i copy someone in their precise artistic choices- i have now curbed my capacities. instead, i seek inspiration in those things that excite me, move me; and then i use those feelings to create something that mimics those emotions but in my own unique way. No one really cares to or wants to see work by a person who exclusively and knowingly just copies other peoples work. It comes off shallow, fake, uninspirational. And the juxtaposition; the ‘original’ (whatever the argument of whether there is any truly original work aside), is something that impels, motivates, and leaves people better.

This is always a struggle for me, as i’m sure it is for most artists and those that would consider themselves creative (aka everyone in their own way). but the value and importance of learning to get out of a rut and continue to make the world better by being yourself and staying true to your own unique and valuable talents cannot be understated.

so, “some quote about you being born an original so don’t die a copy”. which makes me cringe. but REALLY. find who you are and what you want to tell the world and then do and be that. humbly, courageously, boldly. because the world needs you people.

let’s meet Meredith

Hi friends! I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve gotten to write. Probably because it has been, so hi there, I’ve missed you! Today I get to tell you about the last member of the Merry team- the brains behind the beautiful blog. The creator and main writer for Merry just so happens to also be my favorite person on this planet, my fantastic sister- Meredith.

Meredith is one of the most creative and talented people I know. She can whip up a witty and heartfelt blog, make a floral crown, and bake an amazing cobbler all in a matter of minutes. She is passionate and loyal, an incredible friend and an even better movie quoter. She will encourage you when you don’t believe in yourself. She is persistent and hilarious and loves her family so well. Her and her Hubs have the most precious fairytale love story every. Plus she has the cutest puppy ever, Ellie Mae. Meredith is the creator and editor of this adventure we call Merry. This babe rallied the team together and pursued her dream. I think that’s pretty rad. So get to know Meredith, you won’t be able to help falling in love with my sister and best friend.

Merry is her dream come to life, I’d say it’s a pretty great one!

Now go do her proud and grab a cup of coffee, a book, and get to having a beautiful Tuesday.

Love and Sunshine!

let’s meet Jenna

Good morning, sweet friends, I hope your weekend was amazing! My weekend was filled with traveling, friends, football, football, and did I mention football? Needless to say, I am excited that today is Tuesday and there are no football games (that I know of) that Hubs will want to watch tonight. I am going to enjoy every football free second tonight because I know most of my nights from now until December will be spent watching first downs and third down conversions. Such is the life of a woman who is married to a sports lover.

Now, onto much more exciting things!

Today, we are introducing another member of the Merry team- Jenna. Jenna is by far the coolest person I know. Who else could rock overalls and make them look like an expensive, high-fashion piece? Jenna is an incredible artist and designer. Don’t believe me? Take a peek at her new home that she styled all on her own. The girl is GOOD. One of the best things about Jenna is her ability to laugh at herself. She is incredibly humble, open and kind. She is a long heart-to-heart conversation, a late night diy project, an american flag shirt, and a heart of gold. Jenna is one of the most down-to-earth, loving, and selfless people I know. Am I making you want to be her best friend yet?

Jenna is an amazing addition to Merry. She pushes us creatively, encourages us to be ourselves, and adds a ton of wisdom and style to all of her posts. Enjoy getting to know her better!
